‘Dark Betrayal’ the second book in the Divided Empire series was published on Kindle by Endeavour Press on 1st December 2016. It is also available free on Kindle Unlimited.
The new book takes Flavius, Siward and Lucius on two dangerous missions. One is to Erin and the Court of the High King, whilst the other mission sees them escorting the daughter of the commander of Rome’s army in the North of Britain home to her father. Melania Vindiciania is the beautiful young widow of a man known to have had sympathies for the Pagan cause and is suspected that Melania might share these herself. Will she betray Flavius? Or will it be another widow, the Dowager Empress Elen who saw her husband Magnus Maximus, executed on Theodosius’ orders? Even friends can quickly become enemies and in the perilous times that lay ahead for them, Flavius and his friends find out that no-one can be trusted

I live in Burton upon Trent, England with my wife Lynne, son Mark and our two tortoise shell cats, Tansy & Zoe. I enjoy walking in our local countryside and also the Peak District, Derbyshire. I also enjoy photography, reading, writing, visiting museums and historic sites and building and supporting our local Football League team, Burton Albion.
I first became interested in the history of Roman Britain as a child and loved reading the ‘Eagle of the Ninth’ trilogy of novels by Rosemary Sutcliff. When I was older I read and studied all that I could about the Roman period in Britain and especially the events of the 4th century CE. I’ve always had a passion for writing and when I retired from Local Government Social Services, I wrote a column in our local newspaper and also decided to write novels set in late 4th Century CE Roman Britain. ‘Divided Empire’ is my first published novel, but there are hopefully many more to come and the second novel is already under way. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I’ve enjoyed writing them.
